Some of the best health conversations happen outside, with good company and comfortable shoes.
Walk With a Doc is a nonprofit organization founded in 2005 by Dr. David Sabgir, a cardiologist in Columbus, Ohio, with a simple but powerful idea: what if doctors met patients where they are- literally- and made health education free, accessible, and enjoyable for everyone? Today the program has chapters around the world, each one offering free community walks led by local healthcare providers.
I'm proud to lead two local chapters here in Harford County, alongside my co-lead Dr. Phil Halstead for our Joppatowne chapter. Each walk begins with a brief, friendly talk on a health topic, followed by a walk at your own pace. No fitness level required, no registration, no cost, just fresh air, good conversation, and a small but meaningful step toward better health.
Why Walking? Walking is one of the most powerful things we can do for our long-term health. It supports cardiovascular health, helps manage weight and blood sugar, lifts mood, reduces stress, and gives us a reason to get outside and connect with others. It's also something almost anyone can do, at any age and any pace. That's exactly why I love it.
